Also, it is a larger size painting than most by this artist. I acquired it from a very well known and beloved antique and art dealer from the South Shore MA Boston area, they had owned it for many years. One of the more important oil paintings we have ever listed.
It will need restorations - there are 4 small tears in the canvas and 1 small wear spot not torn but no canvas pieces are missing; the canvas needs to be professionally cleaned and I would recommend having it relined. The original carved wood frame has wear to the finish but is still solid and sturdy. He immigrated to the United States at age twenty, five years after the death of his father, to avoid service in the Tsar's Army. Upon arriving in New York, he quickly left for Boston, which was known internationally as the center for learning and art in America, and set up a small studio. Because of his father's reputation and his own skills as an allegorical painter, Pavlosky soon received mural commissions from churches and theatres in the Boston area, including St. Mary's Polish Church, The Fenway Theater, the Orpheum Theater and the Strand Theater in Lynn, Massachusetts.
