Frans Francken II Renaissance Old Master 17thC Large Fine Antique Oil Painting

  
Attributed to Studio of Frans Francken II, Flemish Renaissance Old Master, 17th Century Large Fine Antique Oil Painting. The Holy Family shown centre right by the stable door, surrounded by the three wise men and their attendants. The wise men here traditionally shown as from Africa, Europe and Asia, the farthest parts of the world then known. The sumptuous garments in silk and brocade of the Magi, they wear precious jeweled headgear, is intentionally in sharp contrast to the simplicity of Christ's lowly surroundings.

Typically 17th century Flemish and several elements indicating the work to be by the hand of Francken or studio, skilfully rendered with wonderful detail of the figures' faces and their head-wear and clothing. Still with good colour and depth, in excellent condition with no issues, ready to hang. A superb painting, this came to me from a Suffolk estate where it had been in family ownership for several decades.
