This is a beautiful and enchanting Fine Antique Old California Plein Air Landscape Oil Painting on Masonite, by early Russian - American California Impressionist painter, David Gershuni 1912 - 1984. There is very little biographical information on this painter, but perhaps you know more about him or his work? This artwork depicts a vividly rendered and bucolic landscape scene at sunset, with tall pine trees, calm and tranquil lake waters, and blooming pink and blue wildflowers in the foreground. Signed and dated in the lower left corner: David Gershuni 47. Approximately 31 x 49 inches including frame.
Actual artwork is approximately 24 x 42 inches. Very good condition for 70+ years of age, with moderate scuffing, edge wear, and paint loss to the original period frame. Additionally, there are some speckles of light soiling along the corners of the painted surface please see photos. Born in Russia on Aug. Gershuni was a resident of NYC in 1930.
He later settled in Los Angeles where he was active in the local art scene and taught art to seniors. He died there on Aug. Exh: Armory Show (Chicago), 1932; Salons of America, 1934; Stover Gallery (Pasadena), 1950.
