Fine Antique Old ART DECO 1930s WPA Modern Woman Portrait Oil Painting, UNGAR

  

This artwork depicts an unclothed young brunette woman, carrying a pitcher of water. The subject stands in a stoic physical position, with her right elbow bent behind her head, and displays a determined and confident facial expression. There is certainly a Tamara de Lempicka vibe to this piece. Ungar in the lower right corner. There is very little biographical information on this artist, however I have included an English translation of a Haitian article from Port-Au-Prince, dated to 1934, which lauds the artist as a beautiful and fine painter, among other accolades.

Approximately 25 1/2 x 49 1/2 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 24 x 48 inches. Very good condition for nearly a century of age and storage, with mild - moderate scratches, scuffs and edge wear to the original period vintage wood frame.

Additionally, there are a few spots of light, age related craquelure to the painted surface please see photos. Acquired from an old estate in Los Angeles County, California. To my knowledge, very few original paintings by this talented painter have ever surfaced on the secondary market.

Valeria Unger (mid 20th century) was active/lived in United States. A young stranger to adults eyes and an ingenuous smile, under brown hair. Of eyes so big that they seem destined to capture all the beauty of the world: it is a twenty-year-old painter, Mademoiselle Valeria Ungar. Of Hungarian origin, she is fixed in New York where she recently exhibited yet another highly appreciated set of truly remarkable paintings.

Mademoiselle Ungar, who in turn has been seduced by the beauties of our nature, would like to spend perhaps a year among We. But we have already seen some of her paintings value: portrait of Senator N... Peasant women on our roads (she gave several replicas of this painting) a kid crouching, another on a crate, a little girl like a "dodine" playing the little mother (these three extremes) 1 And there is a pensive and luminous portrait of an American rifleman, and a palm tree solitary on the edge of ·Ill bay, both very characteristic in the largo, a sincere way of! This was a general exhibition of her paintings which will have inspired the beauty of my dear country.
