Italian 19th Century, Large Fine Antique Oil Painting. An impressive , large and fine oil on canvas evocation of The Charity of St Elizabeth of Hungary'.

Saint Elizabeth is depicted giving bread to two beggar boys, one of whom is blind, his empty eyes staring out at the viewer. The artist's positioning of the well-dressed boy shown in the foreground delivers a sharp contrast to the status of the beggar boys. The magic of the painting is illustrated well by the use of penetrating light and delicate shadows, the light bringing out the coloured fabrics while casting shadows over parts of the figure's faces. The present work after Bartolomeo Schedoni's original which is held in the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, Naples. Apparently unsigned, b eautifully painted and in good condition, with minor craquelure and pinpricks to the canvas.

The image dimensions are approximately: 30 1/2'' x 23'' (77.5cm x 58cm). The frame is correspondingly larger. Housed in a good gilt frame, ready to hang.
