Antique Old WWII Folk Art Outsider Oil Painting, RAF Squadron Airplane 1940s

  

This is an unusual and historically significant Antique Old WWII Folk Art Outsider Oil Painting on artist board, depicting the inside of an RAF pilot's cockpit, as he looks down toward a bombed British city, and fierce dogfighting in the distance during a battle of World War II. This painting is well done but is likely not by the hand of a trained artist and has a Folk Art or Outsider Art style to it. Signed: "Helen McMichael" in the lower right corner.

Additionally, a label affixed to the verso reads: WWII Era Outsider Art... Signed: Helen McMichael - Reportedly the mother of the Pilot. This label accompanied this work, but unfortunately, I cannot validate where its claims are true or not. Perhaps you know more about the artist or their work? This painting is either American or British in origin and likely dates to the 1940's.

Approximately 27 x 31 1/4 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 24 3/4 x 29 1/4 inches. Good condition for age, with some slight buckling to the artist board, and a few light scuffs and minor paint loss throughout. Original period frame has mild scuffing and edge wear please see photos. Acquired from an old militaria collection in Los Angeles County, California.
