Antique Oil Painting Hudson River School

  
This is an incredibly nice antique Hudson River School oil painting depicting a large river flowing through a number of small islands on a lovely summer day - in the left foreground, we see a young family possibly going on a picnic with the mother & father carrying some of their food along with their horse who is also carrying supplies - there is a rushing stream going from the left of the bottom section of the painting to the right & under a stone arched bridge by which a man is fishing into the stream - to the right, we see a group of cows being herded down a dirt path. In the middle of the painting, we see a large growth of trees & foliage in late summer green & yellow going across most of the width of the picture, beyond which we see the great river which bends towards the left of the painting - on either side of the river are ranges of mountains which bottom into the edges of the river - the very talented artist who signed his name on the bottom of the painting as "Jordan" created a nice misty affect with the mountain ranges suggesting distance & space from the viewer - the sky is quite interesting as its colors range from some slight pale blue infused with various shades of gray clouds with reddish hues to contrast with the darker colors in the bottom half of the painting.
