This is a visually striking and expressive Antique Mexican Modern WPA Regionalism Cityscape Oil Painting on artist board, depicting the old La Silueta Boneteria in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The Spanish word "silueta" means silhouette in English, which aptly describes this building with its attention-grabbing and unique trapezoidal architectural pose. This work is rendered in the American Regionalism style and was likely painted by an American artist who was visiting the famous resort city in the 1940's - 1950's. It is very reminiscent of New York painter Edward Hopper 1882 - 1967. A photo of this building from 1963 (see photo 12), shows that the building already looked very different by then, from how it is depicted in this painting.

Unfortunately, by 2017 it had been torn down and replaced. This piece appears to be unsigned, but perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? Approximately 23 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 18 x 24 inches. Good condition for age, a few light scuffs and scratches the surface of the painting, and moderate scuffing and edge wear to the wooden frame please see photos.
