REMARKABLE AND OUTSTANDING ANTIQUE PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE IMPRESSIONIST OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS BY ESTEEMED ITALIAN LANDSCAPE PAINTER ALVER REGLI. THIS WORK DEPICTS A MESMERIZING LANDSCAPE SCENE COMPRISED OF A CALM BLUE LAKE SURROUNDED BY A HOUSE ENGULFED BY SCULPTED TREES WITH MOUNTAINS AND A SMALL CITY IN THE DISTANCE. METICULOUSLY RENDERED WITH PAINSTAKING DETAILS. IT IS SIGNED BY A REGLI AND DATED 1913. MILD WEAR FROM OLD AGE. DIMENSIONS: 24" H x 40" W. Died: 1939 - Los Angeles, California. Born in Italy in 1867. Regli was a member of the Italian cavalry who had to leave Italy after killing a nobleman over the love of the girl who posed for Stella. Stella, a reclining nude, was made famous at the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893 and the PPIE of 1915. Regli lived in obscurity in Los Angeles from 1889.

In 1926 he received publicity in the Los Angeles Times for painting Oda, a mate to Stella. In 1931 he was the proprietor of the Florence Art School in Los Angeles and during the Depression worked on the Federal Art Project. He was found dead in his studio on Jan. Southern California Artists (Nancy Moure); City Directory; Los Angeles Times, 3-21-1926 & 1-24-1939 (obituary).
